Labor OH the LONG labor
On Oct 16th we got a positive pregnancy test. I was happy and scared. We
had just been through the loss of a baby in July and I was afraid we
would lose this one too. I kept testing to make sure the line got
darker. 5weeks in I began getting sharp pains on my side. ER said baby
was fine and no idea what the pain was. Fast forward we found out that
the baby was a girl. Yay. I ended up having an irritable uterus and got
put on restrictions to relax when the contractions started. Then I was
put on home bed rest. Haha When it got worse I knew I had to do what I
needed to keep baby in. At 34weeks I was told I had way too much fluid
putting baby at risk of a prolapsed cord when my water broke. That was
scary getting that news. I had told the baby she can NOT come the 16th
cuz I wanted to watch my shows lol.
I was woke up by strong contractions at 430am the 17th of June. Yay I thought but then I had been having them for now week/months. I was at 4mins apart and not too bad. I texted my mom and doula. I
knew something was happening as they got no better in the tub. I got
out and they got worse. So my mom took off from work and came over to
sit with the kids til they woke up. We left for the hospital and got
checked. I was at 3mins apart and was thinning from my last check. The
midwife ended up having to come in because every time I had a
contraction my heart would drop but between was so high it was not good.
I was going from 145-165 down to only 120 at its lowest. I was worried
that if my heart rate didnt come down that they would do a csection for
my health. Baby was fine though. After an hour I had dilated another cm
so they admitted me. Got there at 7am and at 1154 the midwife broke my
water so that we could make sure her cord did not prolapse. I was 5cm at
noon so we labored on......Terri and I walked and walked..... got in
the tub a few times..... the ball..... talked... I asked what everyone
thought the baby would weigh. Terri said 7lbs 14oz. Then at 6ish I was
checked again and still 5cm. John took the kids home and fed them and
put them to bed. Linda come and stayed the night with them. Terri and I
took another walk. When John came back at 9ish I was still sadly a 5 :(
So we started pitocin. Not what I wanted but what was needed. The
contractions came faster and MUCH MUCH harder. I tried moving as much as
I could and then the tub. Each contraction I had TONS of pressure but
no change. I was in too much pain so I decided to get the EPI. I figured
because I was in so much pain I was not able to relax enough to dilate
more. EPI was in and I felt better. Finally at about midnight I had
dilated to 6cm. So we decided to try to sleep. All of a sudden I was
told to move and move now. The baby's heart rate was now dropping with
each contraction. Great I thought first my heart now hers. We kept
having to move to get her in a better spot. Then they put a cath into my
uterus to put water back in. Doing so relived some of the pressure off
her cord. It still dropped. I tried to nap a couple mins between while
John and Terri kept an eye on baby. I would move when it dropped to
much. Doing so kept us from a csection. Around 6am I was fully dilated.
The whole time from 1am to about 530 I was praying that we would not
need a csection. It seemed like once she dropped more there was less
pressure on her. At 653am Taileigh Kay Steege was born. She came out
ready to nurse. She latched right on and nursed. I delived the placenta
before the cord was even cut. Taileigh really never cried. She was
healthy and happy. We were both safe. Born on June 18th at 653am 8lbs
3oz 20in
