Daniel John's birth story

My first born son, Daniel John.
The 18th of December I had some practice contraction that lasted what felt like hours. I began to wonder if it was the real thing so I took a bath and as soon as I got out they stopped. My apt with my dr was the 20th so I just waited. I had been dealing with some horrible headaches and swelling since 37 weeks. The drs just brushed it off and it never got better just kept getting worse. So at my 40week apt my dr said my BP was too high and I was getting pre-eclampsia. He said he was going to start my induction today! Yay I would have my son in my arms soon. Lil did I know it was going to take days. Everything was started that Monday the 20th. The 21st I was sent to walk around and get food. At that point I was contracting every 2-4mins but not dilating fast enough. So we walked walked and did more walking. The contractions were ok but began to really take it out on me. I found a chair at the USO bus stop and fell asleep. Every 4mins the contractions just kept coming. I slept for about 2 hours on and off. Finally it was too much and we went back to the hospital to find out how much I had dilated. The nurse came in and checked me to only tell me I was almost 3cm. The contractions were 3min apart but not strong. My BP hadn't risen nor gone down. So they kept me over night. At 1 am they moved me into a L&D room and started a hep lock iv. I slept for a lil bit then at 7am they came in to see how my contractions were and if I had dilated more over night. My contractions slowed down and I opted not to be checked at the time. 8am rolled around shift change and new dr came on. They started the pitocin to get things moving again cuz my resting BP was much to high. They had forgot that my iv line was started at 1 ish in the morning so the young Korean nurse tried to flush it. Bad idea! I popped! It hurt but I didn't want her to change it do to the fact the day before she collapsed 2 veins in both my hands. So I just left it. They gave me bag after bag of iv fluid along with the pit. I was able to manage the contractions fine until about 1pm they had upped the pit 30mins prior and I felt like my back was on fire! I had to stay hooked up to the monitor they said. So I couldn't move very well. I tired the ball with no relief from the pain. I sent my husband to get a nurse for meds. She came back and checked me. I was just at a 4cm. Oh my I thought its never going to end! I opted for iv meds to help the pain. And finally after days of contracting and in pain I could finally sleep with out being woke in pain. So I slept while John when and got some lunch. I slept til about 3pm when I woke in so much pain that I couldn't handle it! I was in tears. We had to wait to get more meds so I waited. Got a second dose which did nothing! So I gave in to the epideral  but was told I needed to wait for the meds to wear off. Hell they weren't helping at all and during this time they had upped the pit as well. So around 6pm I got the epi. I was checked and was only 4.5cm. It was going to be a long night. At midnight we thought Daniel would be born within the hour. Nope. Instead I began to feel ill. I was hot and felt like I was burning up. The nurse came in and checked me. It was the worse check of all. She came back in an hour later and checked me again. I told her to not push and shove her fist into my tmi clit!! She was Korean and didn't know wha I was talking about so I had to describe it to her. She checked and well she hurt my clit more then anything I told her to STOP! I was pissed! On top of feeling like I was on fire. She took my temp and it was 99-100 and said I was fine. My normal temp is 97.4 so I had a fever but she just brushed it off. 1.5hours later she comes back and takes my temp again and it had shot up to 103.4. As she was leaving the room I told her I was very allergic to penicillin and solfa and not to come in my room with either one. 15mins later she came back in with a bottle of pinicillin reason I knew is I had seen the same bottle used for infections on our farm. I told her to leave the room with the pinicillin. She tried to give it to me and I flipped. So she began looking in my file on the computer. Took her forever to go "oh you're allergic to pinicillin" I looked and her and said ya I told you a dozen times already idiot! So she left and came back after calling the dr. I got my meds to help with infection.  Around 3am the pain was so bad and the epi stopped working. The dr came in and tried upping it with no relief at all. Around 5-6am I was told to start pushing. I don't remember much of the hours I pushed. I wanted to give up and just have him cut out. The dr kept saying I could do it and was really helpful. She knew I didn't want a csection and was pushing me to keep going. 4.5 hours after I began pushing my son Daniel John was born at 10:10am 23 December 2010. He weighed 8lbs 4oz and was 21.3in long. He was perfect. Due to the long pushing and infection he was not breathing right away so I could only hold him for a few seconds before they had to take him and help him breathe. I was a mess. I was so tired and needed lots of stitched because he was sunny side up. I got patched up and cleaned up. Daniel slept from about 10:45-12ish when finally I got to hold him after they were all done. I nursed him right away and he had a great latch. It was a wonderful feeling! I was so happy to finally have him in my arms.
